Handstand/ Contortion
Solo Works
20 minutes
I've been reconsidering the meaning of 'touching the ground' for myself.
Which offers greater freedom – minimizing or maximizing the contact area with the earth?
I'm keen to explore the gap between my childhood memories of moving on all fours and my present physical reality.
This is the focus of my research.

If a creature didn't know how to move its body, how would it move?
Humans can walk, run, stand on one leg, swim, jump, do handstands, crawl, and perform a variety of other movements.
The potential of many different living creatures is hidden within humans.
Exploring the path from the tip to the root of the great tree of evolution.
The performance will incorporate improvisation and adapt to the environment in which it will be performed.

Like a Tsukumogami spirit that dwells in objects, or an unknown phenomenon lurking in nature... this is the story of the juggling Yokai Kemame. Amid countless fireball-like lights, mysterious beings play with mysterious objects scattered all around. Their bodies wriggle, and their movements are woven freely. Dialogue turns to play, play turns to ritual, and gradually you are drawn into their world...

Like a dog chasing a ball, a bird aiming for prey from the sky, or a fish leaping out of the water to eat insects, the body is mobilized for a single purpose. It is used to communicate as a living thing before it was invaded by language. Drawing on the principles of human form, we attempt to turn humans into animals, and furthermore, to wipe all of the human habits that inhabit the body.
